I am reading James Gleick's "Faster" book and so far it hasn't done anything for me. Maybe, here in Flip Flop, the "acceleration of just about everything" just hasn't happened. What he is talking about seems so foreign, so seperate from my own experience as to be nearly irrelevant (chapter 2 is about wrist watches. When was the last time you saw me wearing one?) I thought the book was going to be about "time" in a philosphic sense (ben and I used to go back and forth about the existence of time-- he was in the "time does not exist" camp) but it seems to be a social history of time. Er, I am not even sure I'd call it that. I am not sure he knows what it is about.
