more postcards
I defaced a few discarded books for this. I felt guilty, but they would have been thrown away. I am giving them a new audience.
No Books Were Harmed
I found this man's face in an old Cambodian travel book. It was so striking, I did the art school thing and just redrew it with colored pencils. The caption claimed he was the self-proclaimed King of Angkor and he charged the tourists tribute, until the French locked him up in the thirties. The theme is carried on the in the background-- a wallpaper sample called "Indochine."

For what it's worth, I like these cards very much, the top one in particular. It reminds me of some of the images in Nick Bantock's Griffin and Sabine books.
Everything I learned about collaging I picked up from Nick Bantock. Check out his "Artful Dodger."
thanks, John!
Everything I learned about collaging I learned from Camille. Except for what I learned from my dad (that's what manicuring scissors are for.), my illustration teacher G.Deen, the Dadaists and my students.
