Question 3

3) I know you like Rear Window., so I'll assume a knowledge of Hitchcock here. Cary Grant's character in North by Northwest, or James Stewart's character in Rear Window?

Finally, an easy question. James Stewart's character (LB Jefferies) in Rear Window.

Roger Thornhill (Cary Grant) is easy to love because he is so beautiful and debonair, but that is it. The movie is really carried by the icy Eva Marie Saint (and her dresses, stop me before I swoon!) and the diabolical James Mason. Jefferies, on the other hand, is an artist, and a wounded one at that. He carries the plot by using his powers of observation and attention, while Thornhill is rather hapless and the plot carries him instead. Jefferies is more interesting, has more soul and carries the locus of the action than Thornhill.
