Yet another pedagological treat for my students. The assignment is to take an art piece from their assigned artist and change it with a photographic element they took themselves. I hadn't realized how perfect a painting this was until I started messing with it. Getting the reflection just right was really frustrating, and I am still not happy with it.

Indeed it is. I had the privilege of seeing it in person at the big Vermeer exhibit in New York in May of 2001; it and The Little Street (Vermeer's two "outdoor" paintings) are just amazing. They each have a 3-dimensional feel that just jumps off the canvas when seen in person.
You need some volleyball nets poking out of the water...
