View of the Delft Boardwalk

View of the Delft Boardwalk, originally uploaded by camille94019.

Yet another pedagological treat for my students. The assignment is to take an art piece from their assigned artist and change it with a photographic element they took themselves. I hadn't realized how perfect a painting this was until I started messing with it. Getting the reflection just right was really frustrating, and I am still not happy with it.

Indeed it is. I had the privilege of seeing it in person at the big Vermeer exhibit in New York in May of 2001; it and The Little Street (Vermeer's two "outdoor" paintings) are just amazing. They each have a 3-dimensional feel that just jumps off the canvas when seen in person.
